So far spring break has been good for riding. Monday I got in 100 miles. Yesterday I got in some spinning and Gary and I got out for a hike. Today I got in some good climbing, about 4,000'. I'll top that off with some spinning after the girls and I get out for a run before the rain and snow start falling. I'm getting most of my miles in on my new Trauco. I really like it. It's great on the road and it climbs like a goat. It feels smooth on the single track as well. I'm using a rigid fork on it and I really like that on the climbs. I was a little apprehensive about it on the techie single track but it preforms quite well. I've got to do a little more work but the is to be expected. I'm really thinking about using this bike with slicks for the 508. I mean I haven't been on a road bike for about 5 or 6 years now. All of my riding is done on a mt. bike. Even when I rode my bike from CA to WI a few years back I did it on a full suspension mt. bike. Since I don't know any better, maybe it's the way to go.

I got the new Trauco built up last night. Snapped a shot of it this morning in the yard and then Finn and I got out for a ride.

I guess I'm knid of an endurance junky. I like the idea of push one's limits, finding out how far they can go, discovering there is always a little more in there to give. Today the Iditarod dog sled race will see its 2010 winner cross under the burled arch in Nome this afternoon. I've been watching even closer this year as one of it's best known racers, and father to one of our students is racing for the last time. Jeff King has won he race four times, an accomplishment only a hand full of racers can claim. It looks like the man who has won the Iditarod the past there years will be winning for a fourth, joining Jeff in this elite club. All of my viewing has been on line and I'm hoping either discovery or Versus will cover the race like they have in the past. And speaking of Versus I have it back again! Just yesterday Directv picked it up again. I got to watch the last stage of Paris Nice. Just in time for the spring classics.

So it sounds like all I've been doing is sitting around watching other people race. O.K. that's partly true, but I can do that and spin at the same time. Better run, I've got to meet Bonn and Finn at school in about an hour and Lucy and I want to squeeze as much trail running in as we can.

Been hitting the trails the past couple of days, just running. All of my riding has been on the trainer. This week I've been able to get up before Finn and put in some saddle time. With day light savings coming up I should be able to get some more time on the trails after work. In the winter I tend to run on the road at night, it's just faster when it's dark. Tomorrow morning Gary and I are going to hike the loop trail. A hike with him is long over due.

This week I plan on building up my new Siren Trauco. This will be the bike I race at the Julian Death March. It's seems a few of us from Idyllwild will be heading down the take on the challenge of the March. Last year it truly was a Death March. I think the course is pretty similar to last year so I'll know what I'm getting into.

I'm back among the living. It took longer then I hoped but I kicked that chest cold. I wrapped up three hours of spinning and I feel great. We got more snow and rain this weekend so riding outside isn't too attractive. I started building up my new Trauco, but ran into some complications so that too is taking a bit longer then I hoped. I'm not worried, it'll be ready for the Death March. This week I think I'll get back on track as far as training, now that I'm healthy again. Only two more weeks until spring break, and we are looking forward to it. We are headed to AZ for some fun with my parents, and a little road riding on my new bike. I always enjoy riding in different towns, it's a great way to get to know a place. I've come to find that most places aren't too different from each other. It's all kind of comfortable, which seems pretty reasonable, I mean who doesn't want to be comfortable?
